Overview
A leading organization in the Information Technology sector is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their team. This role involves supporting high-impact work that directly contributes to business performance and team success. The Legal Counsel will collaborate across functions to advance priorities, solve complex problems, and deliver measurable outcomes. The position offers the opportunity to influence both strategic direction and day-to-day execution in a fast-paced environment.
Location: Remote (US-based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $165,000 – $205,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of SaaS contracts and agreements
- Collaborate with Finance, Sales, and Leadership to align legal terms with business objectives
- Advise on corporate governance, compliance, and intellectual property protection matters
- Provide legal guidance on data privacy, AI ethics, and rights related to automated legal workflows
- Implement legal technology to improve contract turnaround times and manage counsel spend
Requirements
- 3-5 years of private practice experience plus 2+ years in-house at a high-growth technology company
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Ability to balance legal soundness with commercial realities and risk-based decision making
- Familiarity with US commercial law, including liability caps, indemnities, and SaaS contracting norms
- Proven experience managing a variety of legal tasks independently in ambiguous environments
- Proficiency with CRM and contract management systems
- Interest in Legal AI tools
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Expertise in US commercial law
- Experience with contract management systems and SaaS contracts
- Knowledge of HubSpot (CRM), legal AI tools, data privacy laws, regulatory compliance tools
- Familiarity with e-signature platforms, cloud-based document management systems, contract analytics software
- Understanding of corporate governance frameworks
