Overview

A biopharmaceutical company specializing in innovative medicines for ADHD, spectrum disorders, anxiety, pain, and addiction is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team at their Monmouth Junction, NJ office. This position is open at Assistant to Senior level, with the title commensurate with experience. The role involves providing comprehensive legal guidance across business departments and supporting senior leadership in strategic, risk-aware decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Review, negotiate, and draft a variety of commercial contracts including licensing, co-development, manufacturing and supply, distribution, clinical trial, and partnership agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather business requirements for contract negotiations.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on legal risks related to business transactions, clinical research, and product commercialization.
  • Offer guidance on dispute matters ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates to streamline contracting processes.
  • Collaborate with external customers and internal clients on contract development, negotiations, and disputes.
  • Support regulatory submissions and communications with regulatory authorities such as the FDA.
  • Assist with new product launches, pricing/rebate analysis, drug price reporting, reimbursement activities, and commercial/research publications.
  • Stay current on laws and regulations impacting pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and advise on compliance.
  • Develop and administer training programs on transactional and regulatory matters and industry best practices.
  • Work closely with departments including Commercial, Finance, Human Resources, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance to provide legal guidance.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel as needed.
  • Proactively assess legal risks and provide guidance to executive leadership and business teams.
  • Independently create legal documents for internal use.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in one or more U.S. states.
  • Minimum of 4 years of legal experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industry, or in a law firm handling transactional work for pharmaceutical clients.
  • Strong understanding and experience with transactions, laws, and regulations related to pharmaceutical product development, manufacture, marketing, and sales.
  • Hands-on experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and executing a wide variety of pharmaceutical-related transactional and legal documents (e.g., master services agreements, confidentiality agreements, drug distribution, supply, commercial agreements, market access, clinical trials, pricing, and reimbursement).
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical business functions such as Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, Commercial Operations, Human Resources, and Finance.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.

Work Arrangements

  • Hybrid work environment.
  • Local candidates must be able to work the majority of the week in the Monmouth Junction, NJ office.
  • Non-local candidates must be able to come into the office multiple times per month.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Assistant Level: $135,000 to $155,000 per year.
  • Counsel Level: $150,000 to $175,000 per year.
  • Senior Level: $170,000 to $205,000 per year.

Base salary is contingent on assessment of education, experience, industry standards, and internal equity.
