Overview

A leading provider of corporate legal solutions is seeking a Legal Technology Consulting Director specializing in Discovery and Data Management to join their team. This role focuses on helping Fortune 500 companies establish, refresh, and manage defensible eDiscovery programs. The position is remote and open nationwide, with a preference for candidates based in Chicago, where part of the Discovery team is located.

Responsibilities

Discovery and Data Management Services

  • Conduct eDiscovery process, structure, technology, and spend assessments and provide actionable recommendations
  • Lead end-to-end selection, implementation, and migration of legal hold, data preservation, data collection, data processing, Early Case Assessment (ECA), and document review systems
  • Drive process and program improvements, including designing operating models, establishing preferred provider programs, defining workflows, drafting playbooks, and creating dashboards
  • Profile systems to create data inventories, map data flow for eDiscovery, regulatory, or compliance purposes, advise on data hygiene, and assist with defensible disposition initiatives
  • Provide augmented eDiscovery case management support, serve as system administrators, and offer legal hold managed services

Client and Project Management

  • Lead multiple client engagements and maintain strong client relationships
  • Facilitate workshops with senior legal and IT stakeholders to assess current processes and define future goals
  • Benchmark eDiscovery processes, technologies, reporting, cost structures, and team structures against industry best practices
  • Identify service providers and technologies to meet client needs
  • Develop and present recommendations and implementation roadmaps to client leadership
  • Map current workflows to new technology-enabled processes and integrations
  • Create process documentation, workflow diagrams, playbooks, SOPs, roles and responsibilities matrices, checklists, and trackers
  • Define test scenarios to validate new processes and technologies
  • Develop and execute change management strategies to ensure adoption and seamless implementation
  • Partner with client teams to develop training materials and lead end-user training
  • Serve as lead project manager for system implementations, managing schedules, budgets, scope, status updates, issue tracking, and vendor coordination
  • Act as primary contact and escalation point for key client stakeholders including eDiscovery managers, litigation attorneys, legal technology managers, and legal operations leads

People and Team Development

  • Mentor junior team members and cultivate trusted advisor relationships with clients
  • Support quarterly business reviews with key accounts
  • Enhance project delivery methodologies, documentation, training, and tools
  • Participate in company-wide strategic initiatives and community programs

Business Development

  • Engage in qualifying opportunities, proposal creation, and new business pitches
  • Develop and grow vendor and partner relationships to expand service offerings
  • Attend industry conferences and events to gather insights and identify new opportunities
  • Contribute to thought leadership through webinars and articles

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in legal consulting or technology implementation in client-facing roles
  • Extensive experience with eDiscovery process and technology assessments, platform selection and implementation, team structure design, and best practice advisement
  • Hands-on experience with eDiscovery platforms such as Exterro, RelativityOne, Reveal, DISCO, Everlaw, Nuix, OpenText, or similar
  • Strong knowledge of productivity platforms like M365 Purview, Google Vault, Slack, and their data preservation features
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Science, Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Data & Analytics, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM)
    • Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP)
    • Leading eDiscovery technologies and service providers
    • eDiscovery stakeholder roles and responsibilities
    • Legal operations and eDiscovery platform integrations
    • Information governance and data hygiene best practices
    • IT implementation methodologies and controls
    • Project budget, resource, and timeline management
  • Ability to independently manage multiple concurrent engagements and clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and storytelling skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce polished client deliverables
  • Willingness to self-study and learn new technologies and concepts
  • Interest in developing generative or AI-enabled solutions
  • Permanent US work authorization
