Overview

This position requires a candidate with strong critical thinking skills who is eager to work collaboratively within a team that values respect, consideration, and high-quality work. The role involves comprehensive training and clear direction, with an expectation of careful and detail-oriented execution of assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the legal process related to secured lending, including civil litigation, title litigation, and potential bankruptcy matters.
  • Draft discovery documents, legal pleadings including dispositive motions, and maintain timely correspondence with clients.
  • Provide excellent client service and maintain regular communication with court officers and opposing counsel.
  • Prepare thoroughly for depositions and court appearances.
  • Conduct initial intake and analysis of files, generating strategy and budget within 24 hours.
  • Review chain of title, pleadings, foreclosure documents, and respond to lender and agent requests.
  • Make court appearances across California and provide same-day client updates.
  • Assist staff by fielding questions in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, and articles for compliance purposes.
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and tasks as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in the mortgage area preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, with the ability to analyze case law and provide recommendations.
  • Strong writing skills capable of drafting civil litigation documents and client correspondence.
  • Proficiency in internet research tools such as WestLaw and/or LexisNexis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with the same efficiency as in-office work.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills, able to multi-task and adapt to change.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with borrowers, clients, attorneys, colleagues, and outside parties.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems promptly and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Normal office conditions with quiet to moderate noise levels.
