Overview
A legal department is seeking an experienced Counsel, Litigation to provide comprehensive litigation support across North America operations. This full-time, remote role focuses on insurance defense in property and casualty, auto and transportation, commercial liability, and workers compensation matters. The position involves managing complex legal issues, supporting litigation and pre-litigation cases, and collaborating with internal teams and external counsel to achieve favorable outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support litigation and pre-litigation cases involving property and casualty, property damage, auto and transportation, and commercial liability.
- Assist with document production and witness preparation for depositions and trials.
- Support paralegal functions related to subpoenas.
- Monitor litigation matters and prepare periodic status updates, internal reports, and strategic recommendations.
- Draft legal memoranda and litigation documents such as settlement agreements, releases, discovery and production documents, and responses to complaints.
- Stay informed on developments in insurance law, litigation trends, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar admission in at least one U.S. state.
- Minimum of 3 years litigation experience handling pre-litigation and litigation insurance defense matters in property and casualty, auto and transportation, and/or commercial liability.
- Employment litigation experience is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in insurance law and regulatory frameworks governing Property & Casualty, Auto, and Commercial insurance sectors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong litigation skills including witness preparation, depositions, discovery procedures, and handling non-party requests.
- Understanding of insurance policies, coverage issues, third party administrator roles, and claims handling processes.
- Skilled negotiator with experience in settlement discussions and dispute resolution.
- Ability to assess and mitigate legal risks with a focus on litigation avoidance and cost-effective case management.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.

- Salary range: $135,000 - $150,000 per year, based on skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
