Overview
A leading personal lines property and casualty insurance group in the United States is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support its Folsom, California law office. This role involves partnering closely with two attorneys to assist in the defense of insureds involved in litigation, primarily handling personal injury defense matters with approximately 80% of the caseload related to auto cases. The position is remote and open to candidates anywhere in the U.S. except Hawaii and Alaska, with occasional travel required for in-person meetings and events.
Responsibilities
- Review legal files and draft legal documents including discovery responses, trial documents, jury instructions, motions, and other pleadings
- Calculate statutory deadlines and ensure assignments comply with them
- Conduct legal research on civil procedure and personal injury issues using electronic resources and law libraries
- Conduct insured client interviews for discovery purposes
- Assist attorneys with preparation of evidence and coordinate with retained experts for trial, arbitration, and mediation readiness
- Summarize plaintiff's written discovery responses and follow up on subpoenas
- Ensure compliance with mandatory continuing legal education requirements
- Work primarily remotely with infrequent travel
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Paralegal certification per California Business & Professions Code Section 6450-6456 or as required by statute in other applicable states
- Maintain current Paralegal Continuing Education requirements
- Strong PC skills and proficiency with legal software applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe
- Excellent written communication skills for composing legal documents
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
- Strong analytical, verbal communication, and organizational skills
- Understanding of legal concepts, terminology, principles, procedures, and professional ethics
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a litigation team
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years of previous paralegal experience
- Knowledge of Electronic Legal Management systems such as iManage and TeamConnect
- Notary license
- Willingness to participate in company culture initiatives and team activities
- Ability to travel as needed for divisional/team meetings and other in-person events
- Flexibility to invest extra time and assist other teams or projects as business needs arise
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay range starting from $32.76 to $43.66 depending on work location
- Opportunity for an annual discretionary bonus of up to 7% of eligible pay through an Annual Incentive Plan
- Total compensation package including 401(k) with company match and other benefits
Location
