Overview
A healthcare industry leader is seeking a Managing Counsel for Legislative & Policy to lead legal initiatives at the intersection of scalable technology, AI-enabled capabilities, and business transformation. This role involves collaborating with analytics, product, creative, and commercial teams to translate market insights into scalable campaigns and performance improvements, directly impacting customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Lead the legislative legal function across all applicable jurisdictions
- Provide strategic legal counsel to Government Affairs, Communications, and senior leadership on policy matters
- Review and support legislative initiatives, agency rulemaking, and policy communications
- Advise on legal implications of proposed laws and regulations at federal, state, and local levels
- Collaborate on federal and state policy strategies with Government Affairs and legal teams
- Engage with trade associations and provide legal insights during meetings with external consultants
- Monitor legal trends and propose actionable recommendations to the business
- Mentor and manage a team of legislative counsel, fostering collaboration and professional development
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum of 12 years of in-house legal experience, preferably in legislative or policy roles within highly regulated sectors such as healthcare
- Expertise in areas including AI, consumer health data privacy, direct-to-consumer telehealth, corporate practice of medicine, or pharmacy operations
- Proven ability to build trust-based relationships with business and legal teams
- Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring attorneys and legal professionals
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for diverse audiences
- Proactive in managing legal processes amid organizational growth and complexity
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of federal, state, and international regulatory frameworks
- Experience with telehealth platform compliance
- Understanding of data privacy laws such as GDPR and HIPAA
- Familiarity with legislative drafting and analysis tools
- Strong partnership and collaboration skills with business units
- Proficiency in risk management and legal strategy development
