Overview
A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Managing Lead Counsel to join the legal team supporting a joint venture oncology research institute. This role provides comprehensive legal support to the Site Management Organization (SMO) business and select enterprise initiatives related to clinical trials, research site relationships, regulatory compliance, privacy, and oncology research operations.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal advisor for the SMO business, including clinical trial operations, research site agreements, regulatory compliance, privacy, and contractual matters.
- Provide legal support for enterprise and cross-functional initiatives impacting the oncology research ecosystem.
- Collaborate closely with senior legal leadership to align legal strategy, risk tolerance, and business priorities.
- Manage and develop a team of legal professionals, providing guidance and mentorship.
- Assess legal and regulatory risks associated with SMO operations and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Stay current on laws, regulations, and industry guidelines related to clinical trials, oncology research, and healthcare compliance.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
- Active membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal counsel experience.
- Experience supporting healthcare clinical trials and/or clinical research operations; experience with SMO or site-based research operations strongly preferred.
- Expertise in commercial contract drafting and negotiation, including clinical trial agreements, master services agreements, confidentiality agreements, and vendor contracts.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop a legal team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide clear, practical legal advice to senior executives and stakeholders.
- Strong legal judgment with a pragmatic and strategic approach in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Highly responsive, proactive, and solutions-oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in technology licensing and data management.
- Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills or equivalent.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range: $163,100 - $271,800
- Compensation package includes base pay, potential annual bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits.
- Pay is determined by performance, experience, skills, equity, market evaluations, and geographic location.
