Overview
A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal. This role supports attorneys in fact investigation, legal research, document preparation, database management, docketing, and client service, focusing on California product liability matters such as asbestos, silica, and other toxic torts. The position is available virtually or at any firm location.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with fact investigation, witness interviews, drafting pleadings and correspondence, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing, and client service.
- Prepare materials and assist in preparation for depositions, hearings, trials, and related proceedings; attend as needed.
- Support pre-trial preparation and attend trials.
- Draft pleadings and discovery documents.
- Coordinate filing and service of pleadings/documents.
- Collect and summarize medical and other records.
- Manage calendaring and docketing tasks.
- Collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices.
- Serve as liaison among clients, colleagues, and experts to ensure timely communication and material production.
- Stay updated on developments in product liability and paralegal practice areas.
- Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies.
- Ensure attention to detail and quality in work.
- Develop technical proficiency in database management, electronic research, and file maintenance.
- Organize and manage files independently or delegate tasks to Paralegal Assistants and supervise them.
- Participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE).
- Mentor Paralegal Assistants.
- Anticipate attorney needs and handle key duties independently without supervision.
- Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year.

Position-Specific Requirements
- Mandatory experience in asbestos, silicosis, or other toxic tort litigation specific to California.
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree with paralegal training.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with skill, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:
- California: $86,000 - $139,000
- Colorado: $75,000 - $119,000
- Illinois: $64,000 - $125,000
- Maryland: $73,000 - $107,000
- Massachusetts: $85,000 - $130,000
- Minnesota: $75,000 - $111,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $78,000 - $114,000
- New York: $66,000 - $125,000
- Washington: $88,000 - $134,000
- Washington, DC: $94,000 - $138,000
These salaries exclude discretionary bonuses, which are non-guaranteed and based on individual and firm performance.
