Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal. This role supports attorneys primarily on California product liability cases, including asbestos, silica, and other toxic tort matters. The position can be based in a virtual office or at any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with fact investigation, witness interviews, drafting pleadings and correspondence, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing, case management, and client service.
  • Prepare materials for and assist in depositions, hearings, trials, and related proceedings; attend as needed.
  • Support pre-trial preparation and attend trials.
  • Draft pleadings and discovery documents.
  • Coordinate filing and service of pleadings and documents.
  • Collect and summarize medical and other records.
  • Manage calendaring and docketing tasks.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices.
  • Serve as liaison among clients, colleagues, and experts to ensure timely communication and material production.
  • Stay updated on developments in product liability and paralegal practices.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies.
  • Ensure attention to detail and quality in all work.
  • Develop technical proficiency in database management, electronic research, and file maintenance.
  • Organize and manage files independently or delegate tasks to Paralegal Assistants and supervise their work.
  • Participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE).
  • Mentor Paralegal Assistants.
  • Anticipate attorney needs and independently handle key duties without supervision.
  • Meet a billable hour requirement of 1,500 hours per year.

Position-Specific Requirements

  • Mandatory experience in asbestos, silicosis, or other toxic tort litigation specific to California.
  • Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree with paralegal training.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skill, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:

  • California: $86,000 - $139,000
  • Colorado: $75,000 - $119,000
  • Illinois: $64,000 - $125,000
  • Maryland: $73,000 - $107,000
  • Massachusetts: $85,000 - $130,000
  • Minnesota: $75,000 - $111,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $78,000 - $114,000
  • New York: $66,000 - $125,000
  • Washington State: $88,000 - $134,000
  • Washington, DC: $94,000 - $138,000

Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
