Overview

An established law firm is seeking an energetic, self-motivated municipal government attorney with experience to join their collaborative team. This role involves providing legal services across a broad range of municipal law areas with minimal supervision and reporting directly to a partner.

Responsibilities

  • Advise assigned municipalities on various aspects of municipal law, including land use and development, subdivision regulations, public improvement districts, special districts, elections, procurement, open meetings and records laws, contracts, franchises, ordinances, legal opinions, and utility matters.
  • Assist clients in negotiating, drafting, and editing agreements such as real estate transactions, development and reimbursement agreements, impact fee and tax abatement agreements, easements, utility agreements, and economic development incentive agreements under Chapter 380.
  • Draft and amend municipal documents and city codes, including ordinances and resolutions.
  • Collaborate with developers, engineers, and municipal officials to provide guidance on new developments, extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) issues, and annexations.
  • Conduct legal research on city ordinances and state regulations.
  • Review and approve agendas in compliance with state and local government codes.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • Preferably 2-4 years of focused municipal law experience, or 5-7 years of overall legal experience with at least 2 years in municipal law.
  • Experience in land use, annexation, and planning is preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, document management, and calendar/file management systems.
  • Willingness to travel within the state as needed.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-service-oriented environment.
