Overview

A legal services firm specializing in default legal services is seeking an experienced attorney to manage foreclosure-related litigation and related legal matters. The role involves preparation of pleadings, motions, and correspondence for judicial foreclosures, mediations, bankruptcy, evictions, and surplus proceeds cases. The attorney will supervise paralegal staff, manage client communications, and may be required to attend court hearings, mediations, depositions, and other in-person meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple legal files in various stages, including litigation, foreclosures, bankruptcy, evictions, excess proceeds, deeds in lieu, replevins, sales, probate, and other assigned litigation matters.
  • Prepare high-quality legal documents such as letters, emails, pleadings, motions, discovery, disclosure, and appellate briefs in a timely manner.
  • Review, audit, and edit legal work product prepared by department staff.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and approval on legal work product.
  • Maintain high ethical standards in case management, communications, and timeliness.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and maintain correspondence.
  • Attend court hearings, sales, mediations, trials, and oral arguments as required.
  • Utilize internal case management systems and client platforms to track case progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute as a team player.
  • Work independently to ensure timely, efficient, and accurate completion of tasks.
  • Conduct initial intake and strategic analysis of new cases.
  • Research applicable laws and facts for assigned cases.
  • Accurately record billable and non-billable work.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients.
  • Commit to ongoing education, including attending continuing legal education (CLE) courses.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned by the managing attorney.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Active New Mexico Bar license in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an associate attorney.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools such as Westlaw and time-billing software.
  • Background in real property law, foreclosure, and title is preferred.
  • Dual licensure in New Mexico and one or more of the following states is preferred: Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, or Colorado.

  • Position may be performed in a traditional office or remotely.

  • Virtual appearances, client meetings, presentations, training, and other remote proceedings may be required.
  • Travel may be necessary for court appearances and in-person meetings.
