Overview

This position is for a Remote Paralegal supporting 9 Tort Attorneys in the organization’s Pennsylvania Staff Legal offices. The role involves providing legal support in a high-volume, paperless, insurance defense environment.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare legal documents, including discovery responses, pleadings, motions, affidavits, correspondence, reports, briefs, memorandums, summaries, and other supporting documentation as needed
  • Use appropriate software to timely prepare correspondence, reports, briefs, motions, pleadings, deposition summaries, discovery, and other documents
  • Create and edit court documents in accordance with Pennsylvania court requirements
  • Support attorneys on assigned cases and serve as a liaison with clients, claims, local courts, and counsel
  • Maintain a minimal billing requirement of 1100 hours per year
  • Submit record requests for medical records chronologies and related research
  • Draft pleadings, motions, responses to discovery requests, and assist with targeted discovery activities
  • Support PIP staff with typing and document filing as needed
  • Follow up with clients to obtain information needed for responses to discovery, including signatures on verifications for discovery
  • Coordinate with claims partners to obtain information needed to respond to discovery
  • Communicate with claim partners and other parties via phone and email
  • Draft background facts and applicable law to support discovery motions, and compile and organize exhibits and related documents
  • Produce large volumes of documents for opposing counsel and experts via various links, CDs, and zip drives
  • Compile and organize exhibits and relevant documents for trial

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant within a paperless insurance defense law office or corporate department
  • Minimum of 1 year of trial preparation experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success organizing large volumes of documents and information during discovery, motion preparation, and trial preparation
  • Experience in a high-volume litigation environment, including document production, discovery preparation, Outlook calendar maintenance, and data maintenance for clients
  • Strong working knowledge of Pennsylvania court systems
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills
  • Proficiency with case management software
  • Strong familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)
  • Ability to meet productivity targets in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, particularly prioritizing work for multiple attorneys
  • Must be able to manipulate electronic documents such as TIF, PDF, and JPG formats

Remote Internet Connectivity Requirement

For 100% remote positions, you must have:

  • High-speed broadband cable internet service with minimum upload/download speeds of 5 Mbps/30 Mbps
  • An internet provider-supplied device that is hardwired to the organization-issued router and/or computer

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annualized base pay range: $63,200 - $94,800
  • Base pay may vary based on performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role, and may be above or below the listed range.
  • The base pay is one component of the organization’s total compensation package. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
