Overview
A full-time Paralegal position focused on Labor and Employment is available, with the option to work from Austin or remotely. Travel is required up to 5% of the time.
This role supports the Associate General Counsel for Labor, Employment, and Data Privacy by assisting with case planning, legal research, client and witness interviews, fact-gathering, drafting and analyzing legal documents, and utilizing technology to improve workflows. The position also involves supporting in-house immigration needs and coordinating the data privacy program.
Responsibilities
- Draft legal documents including discovery requests and responses, notices, interrogatories, motions, and deposition summaries
- Develop legal document forms and templates
- Locate and contact witnesses, arrange interviews, draft witness declarations and pretrial statements, and assist with witness testimony preparation
- Organize case files, exhibits, and coordinate witness scheduling
- Take notes and manage documents during witness interviews and administrative hearings
- Conduct interviews and gather information for employment discrimination and administrative matters
- Prepare summaries of witness interviews and deposition transcripts
- Review and respond to subpoenas and personnel records requests
- Draft and review separation agreements, releases, and settlement agreements
- Assist in developing legal department processes, policies, and procedures
- Support preparation and presentation of employment law and data privacy trainings
- Perform legal research and assist with other legal projects and initiatives
- Identify and escalate issues to supervising attorney as appropriate
- Coordinate with outside immigration counsel on immigration proceedings and screening interviews
- Monitor and respond to privacy-related requests
- Collaborate respectfully with clinical and field staff to gather necessary information
- Assist with development and training on legal and compliance matters across the organization
- Communicate sensitively with diverse individuals during difficult situations
- Gather time-sensitive information while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships
- Support dispute resolution, administrative claims, and litigation efforts in collaboration with internal teams and outside counsel
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a continuous improvement mindset
- Learn about the organization’s business functions and veterinary industry to enhance support
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience relevant to the role
- Three to five years of litigation experience in a law firm or in-house legal setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Proficiency in leveraging AI and other technologies for document management and task tracking
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently on project-based tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting immigration and data privacy legal matters
- Familiarity with employment law and administrative claims processes
