Overview
A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in New York asbestos litigation. This role can be based in a virtual office or any firm location.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production
- Manage databases, docketing, and case management
- Support discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation
- Analyze factual information and assist in preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs
- Manage document production and case management databases
- Schedule and calendar case events
- Participate in trial activities
- Prepare fact and expert witness lists across jurisdictions
- Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies
- Develop technical proficiency in database use, electronic research, and file maintenance
- Organize and manage files independently or delegate to Paralegal Assistants
- Mentor Paralegal Assistants and supervise their work
- Attend and participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE) sessions
- Anticipate attorney needs and handle key duties without supervision
- Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year
- Deliver superior service and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
- Maintain professional appearance and interact courteously
- Demonstrate excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
- Work collaboratively within a team and adapt to changing business demands
- Produce quality work efficiently and accurately
- Exercise sound judgment and assume responsibility for decisions under deadlines
- Maintain confidentiality and professional integrity
- Lead and motivate others, including managing direct reports when applicable
Requirements
- Litigation experience in New York is required
- Experience with New York asbestos litigation is preferred
- Location in New York is preferred
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree with paralegal training
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation varies based on skills, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:
- California: $84,000 - $112,000
- Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- Washington State: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
Salaries do not include discretionary bonuses, which are non-guaranteed and based on individual and firm performance.
