Overview
A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in New York asbestos litigation. This role involves fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database and case management, docketing, and client service. The position is open for virtual work or at any firm location.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, and document preparation
- Manage document production and case management databases
- Handle discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation
- Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and witness lists across jurisdictions
- Schedule and calendar case events
- Independently organize and manage files; supervise Paralegal Assistants and Information Governance staff
- Participate in continuing legal education (CLE) sessions
- Mentor Paralegal Assistants
- Anticipate attorney needs and work independently without supervision
- Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year
- Deliver superior service to internal and external clients with effective communication
- Maintain professional demeanor, appearance, and confidentiality
- Exercise sound judgment and assume responsibility for decisions under deadlines
- Lead and motivate others, including performance evaluation and employee development when applicable
Requirements
- Litigation experience in New York required
- Asbestos litigation experience in New York preferred
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree with paralegal training
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing business demands
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to produce quality work efficiently and accurately
- High level of professional integrity and confidentiality
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation varies based on skills, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:
- California: $84,000 - $112,000
- Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- Washington State: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
