Overview
A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in New York asbestos litigation. This role involves fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database and case management, docketing, and client service. The position is open for virtual work or at any firm location.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, and document preparation
- Manage document production and case management databases
- Handle discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation
- Analyze factual information and assist in preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs
- Schedule and calendar case events
- Prepare fact and expert witness lists across jurisdictions
- Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies
- Develop technical proficiency in database management and electronic research
- Organize and manage files independently or delegate to Paralegal Assistants
- Mentor Paralegal Assistants and supervise their work
- Attend and participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE) sessions
- Anticipate attorney needs and work independently without supervision
- Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year
- Deliver superior service to internal and external clients with effective communication
- Maintain professional appearance and courteous interactions
- Demonstrate excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
- Collaborate effectively within a team and adapt to changing business demands
- Produce quality work efficiently and accurately
- Exercise sound judgment and assume responsibility for decisions under deadlines
- Maintain confidentiality and professional integrity
- Lead and motivate others, including managing direct reports when applicable
Requirements
- Litigation experience in New York is required
- Experience with New York asbestos litigation is preferred
- Location in New York is preferred
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree with paralegal training
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with skill, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:
- California: $84,000 - $112,000
- Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
These salaries do not include discretionary bonuses, which are non-guaranteed and based on individual and firm performance.
