Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in New York asbestos litigation. This role involves fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database and case management, docketing, and client service. The position is open for virtual work or at any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, and document preparation
  • Manage document production and case management databases
  • Handle discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation
  • Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and witness lists
  • Schedule and calendar case events
  • Independently organize and manage files; supervise Paralegal Assistants and Information Governance staff
  • Participate in continuing legal education (CLE) sessions
  • Mentor Paralegal Assistants
  • Anticipate attorney needs and work independently without supervision
  • Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year
  • Deliver professional, courteous service to clients and colleagues
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Lead and motivate others, including managing direct reports when applicable

Requirements

  • Litigation experience in New York required
  • Experience with New York asbestos litigation preferred
  • Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree plus paralegal training
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing business demands
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
  • Professional demeanor and appearance

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation varies by location, skills, and experience. Expected salary ranges by location include:

  • California: $84,000 - $112,000
  • Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
  • Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
  • Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
  • Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
  • Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
  • New York: $79,000 - $116,000
  • Washington State: $78,000 - $106,000
  • Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000

Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
