Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in asbestos litigation within the New England region. This role can be based virtually or at any firm location, with a preference for candidates located in New England who have asbestos litigation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production.
  • Manage databases, docketing, and case management tasks.
  • Support discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation.
  • Analyze factual information and assist in preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Manage document production and case management databases.
  • Participate in trial activities.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies.
  • Develop technical proficiency in database management, electronic research, and file maintenance.
  • Organize and manage files independently or delegate tasks to Paralegal Assistants and Information Governance staff.
  • Supervise and mentor Paralegal Assistants.
  • Attend and participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE) sessions.
  • Anticipate attorney needs and handle key duties without supervision.
  • Meet a billable hour requirement of 1,500 hours per year.

Requirements

  • Mandatory experience in asbestos/toxic tort litigation.
  • Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field; or Associate’s degree with paralegal training.
  • Familiarity with e-filing protocols and online docket research in New England state and federal courts.
  • Ability to deliver superior service and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Professional appearance and courteous interaction at all times.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing business demands.
  • Produce quality work efficiently and accurately.
  • Exercise sound judgment and decisiveness under deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high professional integrity.
  • Leadership skills to motivate and manage direct reports, including performance evaluation and employee development.
  • Preferred location in New England for candidates with asbestos litigation experience, though not required.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skill, experience, and location. Expected salary ranges by state/jurisdiction include:

  • California: $84,000 - $112,000
  • Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
  • Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
  • Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
  • Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
  • Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
  • New Jersey (Jersey City): $85,000 - $116,000
  • New York: $79,000 - $116,000
  • Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
  • Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000

Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
