Paralegal - Remote in Ontario

Overview

This role is part of the Legal team. The Paralegal will work independently to manage minor litigation files and provide litigation support to lawyers. Responsibilities also include legal research and compliance support, along with reviewing and drafting commercial agreements.

Responsibilities

Litigation and Dispute Resolution

• Carry minor litigation files, including Small Claims and Human Rights matters, within the licensed scope of practice
• Draft and prepare pleadings, applications, and other tribunal and court documents

Litigation Support

• Assist and support senior counsel in litigation claims
• Prepare initial drafts of documents as requested, including pleadings and affidavits of documents
• Conduct case-specific research
• Manage document productions
• Assist with interviewing witnesses and assembling answers to undertakings

Corporate/Commercial

• Draft and review contracts
• Conduct legal research as requested on a wide range of commercial issues
• Prepare initial drafts of internal policies and procedures as requested
• Develop playbooks and a precedent library to support contract drafting and review

Compliance and Risk Management Support

• Provide updates to senior members of the Legal team regarding relevant legislative and regulatory developments
• Assist the Privacy Officer in responding to access requests and addressing instances of non-compliance
• Support the Marketing Department, including review of disclaimers and drafting contest rules

Requirements

• Licensed member of the Law Society of Ontario, in Paralegal Class P1, in good standing
• Minimum 5–7 years’ experience as a paralegal handling matters before small claims courts or various tribunals
• Strong research and writing skills
• Excellent oral and written communication and advocacy skills
• Ability to work independently

Compensation & Benefits

• Expected starting base salary: $65,000
• Eligible for bonuses in addition to the base salary
• Annual range of expected compensation: $65,000 - $87,000 (determined by performance, time in the position and variable compensation earned)
