Overview
A leading autonomous logistics and drone delivery service provider is seeking a Senior Legal and Compliance Lead for its operations across multiple African countries. This role is critical for managing legal and compliance functions in complex and evolving regulatory environments, supporting rapid growth and operational sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and scale legal and compliance programs across African operations
- Lead day-to-day compliance activities including sanctions, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, privacy, healthcare, employment, and product regulations
- Support internal investigations, audits, and risk assessments in collaboration with People, Finance, and senior leadership
- Manage litigation and disputes within African markets
- Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business and technical teams
- Ensure compliance with U.S. government award requirements, including FARs and 2 CFR 200; serve as primary contact for U.S. government contracting officers
- Monitor and assess regulatory and policy developments across relevant African jurisdictions and advise leadership on emerging risks and opportunities
- Act as a senior legal advisor to business leaders, providing pragmatic and risk-calibrated guidance
- Build strong cross-functional relationships and foster a culture of compliance
- Help shape long-term legal and regulatory strategy balancing compliance rigor with innovation and speed
Requirements
- Proven experience advising on legal and compliance matters, preferably in international or emerging-market environments
- Strong judgment and ability to make independent decisions with appropriate escalation
- Ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and develop practical solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including advising senior stakeholders
- Collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills
- Willingness to travel up to 25% to African countries and the San Francisco headquarters
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and diving deep into unfamiliar issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing compliance with U.S. government contracting requirements
- Background in healthcare, employment, sanctions, anti-corruption, or privacy law
