Overview
A global autonomous logistics organization is seeking a Senior Legal and Compliance Lead to oversee and scale legal and compliance operations across multiple African countries. This role is critical for supporting growth in complex regulatory environments and involves strategic leadership and hands-on management of compliance programs.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and continuously improve legal and compliance programs across Africa to support rapid and sustainable growth
- Lead day-to-day compliance activities related to sanctions, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, privacy, healthcare, employment, and product regulations
- Support internal investigations, audits, and risk assessments in collaboration with People, Finance, and senior leadership teams
- Manage litigation and disputes within African markets
- Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business and technical teams
- Ensure compliance with U.S. government award requirements, including FARs and 2 CFR 200; serve as a primary contact for U.S. government contracting officers
- Monitor and assess regulatory and policy developments across relevant African jurisdictions and advise leadership on emerging risks and opportunities
- Act as a senior legal advisor to business leaders, providing pragmatic and risk-calibrated guidance
- Build strong cross-functional relationships and foster a culture of compliance within the organization
- Help shape long-term legal and regulatory strategy balancing compliance rigor with innovation and speed
Requirements
- Proven experience advising on legal and compliance matters, preferably in international or emerging-market environments
- Strong judgment and confidence to make independent decisions with appropriate escalation
- Ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and develop practical solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including advising senior stakeholders
- Collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills
- Willingness to travel up to 25% to African countries and the San Francisco headquarters
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
