Overview
A healthcare industry leader is seeking a Privacy Counsel I to provide business-aligned legal guidance focused on governance, compliance, and operational risk management. This role involves partnering with leadership, compliance stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate complex privacy issues into practical recommendations. The position supports responsible execution, improved decision-making, and sustainable growth within a healthcare environment.
Location: Remote (US-based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $142,000 – $229,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Provide counsel on privacy assessments and product-related matters
- Develop training materials and privacy guidance resources for internal teams
- Serve as a subject matter expert on privacy law and deliver strategic legal advice
- Monitor evolving privacy laws and update internal policies accordingly
- Review marketing initiatives to ensure compliance with data protection laws
- Support the overall Privacy Program and risk management processes
- Assist in drafting and negotiating privacy terms in vendor contracts
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to a state bar
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm focusing on data privacy matters
- Strong understanding of data privacy laws including CCPA, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM
- Experience advising on consumer product and marketing initiatives from a privacy perspective
- Proven ability to collaborate across teams on compliance issues
- Skilled in drafting and negotiating data protection agreements
- Experience in the healthcare sector, especially direct-to-consumer healthcare, is a plus
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and take initiative on unfamiliar tasks
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of GDPR and its implications for global data privacy standards
- Familiarity with data security frameworks such as NIST or ISO 27001
- Experience with healthcare compliance
- Understanding of direct-to-consumer product privacy considerations
- Experience managing vendor relationships in a legal context
- Familiarity with contract management systems
