Overview
A leading organization in the Retail & Consumer Goods sector is seeking a Privacy & Product Counsel to join their team remotely (US-based candidates only, no visa sponsorship). This role focuses on guiding initiatives that intersect scalable technology, AI-enabled capabilities, and business transformation. The position involves collaboration with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to translate complex legal and privacy requirements into practical technology solutions, influencing architecture, execution quality, and long-term innovation within a consumer-facing environment.
Responsibilities
- Advise on compliance with global privacy laws, including CCPA/CPRA and GDPR
- Provide business-centric guidance on data usage and protection across products
- Support the creation and maintenance of privacy-related policies and governance standards
- Assist in data incident management and regulatory notifications
- Collaborate with product and technology teams to integrate privacy considerations during product development
- Review and assess new products and technologies from a privacy perspective
- Negotiate privacy terms in commercial agreements and manage third-party vendor compliance
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the United States
- Minimum 6-9 years of legal experience focused on privacy and data protection
- Experience providing product counseling for technical teams
- Combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred
- Background in consumer-facing or global technology enterprises is a plus
- Strong ability to communicate complex legal requirements clearly to diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- IAPP Certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM
- Knowledge of international privacy laws
- Experience with data processing agreements and vendor risk management related to privacy
- Familiarity with data analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Tableau)
- Understanding of AI technologies and their privacy implications
- Experience with regulatory compliance software (e.g., OneTrust, TrustArc)
- Understanding of privacy impact assessment methodologies and data governance frameworks
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $175,000 – $225,000
