Overview
A growing consumer finance organization is seeking a Product and Regulatory Counsel to provide legal guidance throughout the lifecycle of financial products. This role involves ensuring compliance with financial regulations, managing risk, and collaborating with product, engineering, and marketing teams to support compliant and rapid innovation of lending products. The position reports to the VP, Associate Counsel & Assistant Secretary and works closely with legal, compliance, marketing, and technology departments.
Responsibilities
- Represent legal interests on cross-functional teams to design and implement financial products.
- Identify creative solutions for unique use cases and escalated issues while ensuring compliance with financial regulations, partner contracts, card brand rules, and industry best practices.
- Review customer-facing materials, including multi-channel advertising and user experience content, for compliance with federal and state laws.
- Provide legal advice on state and federal regulatory matters and manage outside legal counsel when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of consumer lending and applicable laws/regulations across multiple states and digital platforms.
- Prepare legal documents such as loan contracts, software service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other commercial agreements.
- Collaborate strategically with other departments to advise on legal and regulatory matters, supporting state and digital expansion efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to a state bar.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations including Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Articles 2 and 9; Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP); Federal Trade Commission Act; Truth in Lending Act (TILA/Reg. Z); Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA/Reg. V); Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA); Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA/Reg. B); CAN-SPAM Act; Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
- 3 to 5 years of legal experience.
- Experience advising on legal issues related to consumer lending, technology, consumer protection, financial services, and operations.
- Strong legal research skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent analytical, written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, handle interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 5%.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $137,800.47 to $206,700.70, varying by experience and location.
