Overview
This role involves providing legal support for product development and intellectual property management within a fast-paced cybersecurity environment. Reporting to the Senior Director of Intellectual Property & Product Law, the position partners with legal, engineering, product, security, and go-to-market teams to manage risk and support innovation.
Responsibilities
- Advise product and engineering teams on legal issues throughout the product lifecycle, including data use, integrations, encryption, export controls, and open source software (OSS) use
- Review new features, architectures, and vendor integrations for intellectual property (IP) and product risk
- Support AI feature reviews and participate in AI impact assessment processes
- Identify recurring risks and propose scalable solutions such as AI agents, automations, playbooks, and templates
- Review and advise on open source software usage, licensing, and compliance processes
- Assist with drafting and updating OSS and IP-related policies
- Support patent program activities including invention harvesting, disclosure review, and coordination with outside counsel
- Assist with trademark clearance, filings, and portfolio management
- Contribute to IP enforcement strategy, including reviewing infringement issues and demand letters
- Partner with commercial legal teams to support negotiation of IP, AI, and product-related contract terms
- Review vendor agreements and technology partnerships for IP and AI issues
- Serve as a subject matter expert on IP and AI clauses in customer and vendor contracts
- Support IP diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships
- Assist with integration of acquired IP and technology into company systems and portfolio
- Help draft and maintain IP, AI, and product-related policies
- Deliver practical guidance and training to business teams
- Contribute to building scalable legal processes such as templates, workflows, and intake systems
Requirements
- JD and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience
- Law firm experience is required
- In-house experience at a technology company is strongly preferred
- Strong practical judgment with ability to provide clear, business-friendly advice
- Ability to work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams
- Comfortable managing multiple workstreams simultaneously
- Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience in product counseling related to AI, privacy, data use, and integrations
- Familiarity with at least two of the following: patents and patent prosecution process, open-source licensing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting SaaS products
- Exposure to AI/ML or data governance issues
- Experience participating in IP diligence for mergers and acquisitions
- Technical background in engineering or software is a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $137,000 to $259,000 USD annually, depending on skills, experience, and location
