Overview

A leading global digital identity verification platform is seeking a Product & Privacy Counsel to join their growing Privacy Team. This role involves providing practical, business-focused legal advice on product development, data use, and privacy compliance. The position supports privacy-by-design initiatives across a suite of identity verification and fraud prevention products and contributes to the management of the organization's Global Privacy Program.

This is a full-time, permanent role, preferably based in the San Diego office with a hybrid work model (three days per week onsite). Remote work may be considered for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs/DPIAs) for new products, features, and data processing activities
  • Provide guidance and support to the Commercial Legal Team on privacy and data protection issues in customer and supplier contracts
  • Monitor global privacy and data protection laws, regulatory trends, and industry best practices
  • Maintain and update internal and external privacy and data protection policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Support privacy audits and assessments; respond to privacy-related inquiries from customers, regulators, and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the ongoing management and operation of the Global Privacy Program

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience at a leading private practice law firm and/or in-house at a technology company
  • Strong working knowledge of global privacy frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial technology contracts with a focus on privacy and data protection
  • Experience providing business and product counseling within the technology industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or CIPP/C
