Overview
This role involves serving as Product Underwriting Counsel, partnering closely with technology and product teams to identify, evaluate, and manage title insurance risk. The position acts as a bridge between legal, underwriting, and product development functions by translating complex title insurance, real estate, technology, automation, and AI-assisted workflow concepts into actionable guidance that shapes product strategy, underwriting protocols, and product evolution.
Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, communicate, and manage title insurance risk associated with technology features, products, or product lines.
- Execute the underwriting vision and strategy for technology features, products, or product lines.
- Participate in planning meetings and product strategy discussions.
- Assess market competition by cultivating knowledge of competitor products to identify gaps, competitive threats, and advantages.
- Provide underwriting, title insurance, and real estate conveyancing subject matter expertise to product managers, designers, researchers, and engineers.
- Translate complex title insurance and real estate concepts into clear ideas accessible to product team members to influence product strategy.
- Translate complex technology product concepts into clear ideas accessible to transaction underwriters to influence transaction underwriting protocols.
- Execute tasks and assignments on the product roadmap.
- Provide input to the product development team for product evolution and priorities.
Requirements
- Law degree required.
- Admission to law practice appropriate for the position and location.
- At least three years of direct experience in title insurance underwriting, title counsel, or real estate conveyancing.
- Demonstrated ability to apply underwriting judgment in technology, product, automation, or AI-enabled environments.
- Strong verbal and visual communication skills.
- Strong understanding of land titles, real estate law, and conveyancing processes.
- Strong understanding of federal and state laws related to title insurance and settlement services.
- Some technical aptitude, such as novice-level understanding of at least one software engineering language.
- Business acumen and strategic agility to influence outcomes and successfully negotiate for resources.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $97,700.00 - $130,300.00 annually.
- Pay is based on factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, and geographic location.
