Overview
An experienced commercial real estate finance attorney is needed to support the Commercial Real Estate business for a F500 financial services company. This role will advise the company’s Multifamily Agency Finance group, which acts as a seller/servicer for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA/HUD loans across production, asset management, and servicing.
This position is full-time, remote, and is a 8 month engagement.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to Agency Finance transaction teams and internal stakeholders.
- Partner with the business, Risk, and Compliance to evaluate GSE and FHA program requirements, and help develop compliance, monitoring, and reporting procedures.
- Negotiate and manage sub-servicing documentation for Freddie Mac securitizations, and interpret sub-servicing obligations on existing securitizations from an asset management and servicing perspective.
- Engage and oversee outside counsel efficiently.
- Advise business partners on communications with customers, regulators, industry groups, and outside firms.
- Lead projects such as negotiation guidelines, training sessions, and process improvements with Operations.
Required Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing of at least one state bar.
- 4+ years of experience as an attorney at a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department.
- Experience representing lenders in commercial real estate financing transactions secured by multifamily properties. Residential single-family experience does not qualify.
- Working familiarity with the full suite of CRE loan documents and related issues, including:
- Title insurance
- Surveys
- Zoning
- Environmental matters
- Flood and casualty/liability insurance
- Post-closing covenants and reporting
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience at a law firm, in-house, or a combination.
- 2+ years of multifamily agency finance experience representing a Fannie Mae DUS or Freddie Mac Optigo lender (seller/servicer), covering loan origination, servicing, and asset management.
- Lender-side experience preferred. Borrower-side experience will also be considered.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to quickly understand business needs and partner closely with the business.
Compensation & Benefits
- $120 - $130 per hour (hourly with a budget of $120 - $130 per hour)
- Candidate will be employed through an Employer of Record (W-2) for the duration of the engagement.

- Candidates must be able to work full-time starting ASAP.
- Work will be performed remotely; candidates in the McLean, VA area are welcome to work out of the McLean office 1-5 days/week.
