Overview
A Regional Underwriting Counsel position is available to provide legal counsel and underwriting support for real estate closings and title insurance matters across multiple states, including Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. This role involves assessing the company's willingness and ability to insure transactions, delivering educational seminars and webinars, supporting business development, and assisting with agent audits. Occasional travel is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on real estate closings and title insurance matters to customers and internal departments.
- Evaluate proposed requests for coverage to identify potential risks and suggest appropriate language in title commitments, policies, and endorsements.
- Issue underwriting guidelines for assigned states.
- Create and deliver relevant educational presentations at live seminars and webinars.
- Support business development efforts by generating new leads and signing new customers.
- Assist in audits of the company's agents.
- Provide underwriting support in additional jurisdictions as needed.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-approved law school.
- Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one state.
- 3 to 10 years of real estate experience.
- Knowledge of title insurance rates, rules, and underwriting standards for all assigned states.
- Ability to stay current with developments in rules and regulations in assigned states.
- Strong communication skills to discuss and review coverage requests and deliver presentations.
- Business development experience.

- Experience providing underwriting support across multiple jurisdictions.
