Overview
This remote role supports real estate closings and title insurance underwriting by providing legal guidance to customers and internal teams. The Regional Underwriting Counsel helps determine the organization’s willingness and ability to insure real estate transactions, supports customer and business-development efforts, and delivers educational content.
Responsibilities
- Provide underwriting support, answers, and guidance to customers and internal departments on real estate closings and title insurance matters, including determining the organization’s willingness and ability to insure real estate transactions.
- Provide underwriting support in additional jurisdictions as needed (ability to support additional jurisdictions is a plus).
- Build relationships with new customers and maintain and grow relationships with existing customers.
- Support business development activities, including attendance at customer visits and networking events.
- Create and deliver relevant educational topics at live seminars and webinars.
- Assist with audits as needed.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA approved law school.
- Licensed attorney in good standing in the state in which the position is being sought.
- Must be located in NC or local to the state in which the position is being sought.
- 3–10 years of title insurance experience or real estate experience.
- Knowledge of title insurance rates and rules for the state in which the position is being sought.
- Ability to discuss and respond in writing to proposed requests for coverage to determine potential risks.
- Ability to suggest and provide adequate language in title commitments, policies, and endorsements that will protect the organization’s interests while assisting the organization’s agents.
- Ability to prepare and deliver relevant live, web-based, or recorded educational presentations for customers.
- Ability to support the development of new customers.
- Remote position with working from home being common practice.
- Occasional travel is required.
