Overview
A leading distributed retail mortgage lender with over 9,000 employees and more than 700 branches across all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico is seeking a Regulatory Affairs Counsel. This role is responsible for managing and supporting responses to federal and state regulatory examinations, audits, and inquiries, contributing significantly to the compliance program by providing consistent and effective counsel throughout the examination lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate responses to regulatory examinations, audits, and information requests from federal and state agencies.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements through independent research and evaluation.
- Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer to develop strategies for examination preparedness and remediation.
- Work with business stakeholders to gather, review, and organize documentation and data responsive to examination requests.
- Track and manage examination findings, corrective action plans, and remediation timelines to ensure timely resolution.
- Develop, review, and amend policies and procedures based on regulatory changes, examination feedback, or requirements.
- Regularly report to senior legal leadership on examination matters requiring attention and provide recommendations.
- Perform other legal and compliance responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of mortgage lending experience, including at least 1 year in a regulatory examination or audit-focused role.
- Experience managing or supporting regulatory examinations conducted by agencies such as state regulators, the CFPB, or prudential regulators.
- Familiarity with loan origination systems; experience with Encompass preferred.
- Knowledge of consumer mortgage lending laws and regulations, including TILA/Reg Z, RESPA, ECOA, HMDA, and applicable state regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to navigate dynamic regulatory environments effectively.
