Overview

A middle-market private equity firm specializing in investments in the health and wellness sector is seeking a Regulatory Counsel. This role involves providing legal advice on regulatory matters across multiple portfolio companies, ensuring compliance with FDA, FTC, and other applicable laws and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the trusted legal advisor on regulatory issues for portfolio companies.
  • Collaborate with leadership, product development, quality, marketing, operations, and commercial teams.
  • Review product labels, packaging, advertising claims, websites, social media, and other marketing materials.
  • Advise on regulations related to dietary supplements, food, beverages, cosmetics, and consumer health products.
  • Support new product development and launches.
  • Evaluate regulatory risks and prepare guidance.
  • Train business partners and provide updates on changes to applicable laws.
  • Monitor manufacturers and certifications.
  • Respond to FDA inquiries and other compliance matters.
  • Monitor changes in the regulatory landscape to proactively guide the business.
  • Balance legal risk with commercial objectives by providing practical, business-oriented advice.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 3–5 years of legal experience post-law school.
  • Experience in FDA, FTC, advertising law, consumer protection, product labeling, regulatory compliance, or related areas, gained at a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Strong understanding of FDA and FTC regulations, including labeling, advertising, and product compliance.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a practical, business-friendly manner.
  • Excellent judgment and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting companies in health and wellness, dietary supplements, food, beverage, cosmetics, or consumer packaged goods sectors.
  • Experience reviewing marketing claims and advertising materials.
  • Familiarity with FTC advertising regulations and NAD guidance.
