Overview
A middle-market private equity firm specializing in investments within the health and wellness sector is seeking a Regulatory Counsel. The firm focuses on acquiring small and medium-sized businesses with strong growth potential and aims to generate sustainable, long-term value through operational expertise and strategic collaboration with experienced management teams. This role is fully remote within the United States.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the trusted legal advisor on regulatory matters across multiple portfolio companies.
- Collaborate with leadership, product development, quality, marketing, operations, and commercial teams to ensure compliance with FDA, FTC, and other applicable laws and regulatory standards.
- Review product labels, packaging, advertising claims, websites, social media, and other marketing materials.
- Advise on regulations related to dietary supplements, food, beverages, cosmetics, and consumer health products.
- Support new product development and launches.
- Evaluate regulatory risks and prepare guidance for business partners.
- Provide training and updates on changes to applicable laws.
- Monitor manufacturers and certifications.
- Respond to FDA inquiries and other compliance matters.
- Stay informed on changes in the regulatory landscape to proactively guide the business.
- Balance legal risk with commercial objectives by providing practical, business-oriented advice.
- Partner with multiple portfolio companies operating in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 3-5 years of legal experience post-law school.
- Experience in FDA, FTC, advertising law, consumer protection, product labeling, regulatory compliance, or related areas, gained at a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
- Strong understanding of FDA and FTC regulations, including labeling, advertising, and product compliance.
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a practical, business-friendly manner.
- Excellent judgment and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting companies in health and wellness, dietary supplements, food, beverage, cosmetics, or consumer packaged goods sectors.
- Experience reviewing marketing claims and advertising materials.
- Familiarity with FTC advertising regulations and NAD guidance.
