Overview
The organization is seeking an experienced Lateral Litigation Attorney to join its litigation practice. The role involves working on high-stakes, complex litigation throughout West Virginia and beyond. Remote work is available for the right candidate, with occasional travel to the Charleston office required. The team includes experienced litigators across offices in Charleston, Morgantown, and Wheeling.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage a sophisticated litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
- Handle all phases of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals as appropriate.
- Draft and review complex legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and correspondence.
- Conduct thorough legal research and develop strategic litigation approaches.
- Represent clients in court proceedings, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
- Provide practical legal counsel and maintain regular communication with clients throughout the litigation process.
- Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas to develop litigation strategies.
- Support the continued growth of the practice through exceptional client service, business development, and professional networking.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the West Virginia State Bar (or the ability to obtain admission promptly).
- Significant litigation experience with demonstrated success handling complex matters.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Commercial Litigation
- Insurance Defense
- Product Liability
- Medical Malpractice
- Mass Litigation
- Other complex civil litigation
- Exceptional legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
- Experience managing all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, and dispositive motion practice.
- Strong organizational and case management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients.
