Overview

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced attorney to serve as Senior Claims Counsel, managing complex title insurance and escrow claims. The position involves independent decision-making, legal analysis, negotiation, and oversight of outside counsel in a collaborative in-house environment.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate claims to determine coverage and evaluate losses under title policies
  • Assess defenses for insured parties and the company
  • Decide when to retain outside counsel and manage claims through to resolution
  • Negotiate settlements with claimants, opposing counsel, and third parties
  • Represent the organization in court proceedings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
  • Manage claim budgets, review and approve outside counsel invoices and expenses
  • Direct litigation strategy with outside counsel during claim administration
  • Identify and pursue recovery sources

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 years of legal experience with emphasis on real estate matters including title, ownership of real property, liens, easements, encumbrances, and escrow
  • Experience with insurance coverage, including litigation, mediation, and arbitration
  • Specific expertise in title insurance, escrow, and lender matters is highly desirable
  • Juris Doctor (Law Degree) required
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in any U.S. state
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement resolution strategies to conclude claims
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate originality and ingenuity

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $129,300 to $172,300 annually
  • Pay is based on factors including knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, and geographic location
