Overview
This role is a Senior Corporate Counsel, Product position focused on complex legal challenges at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cloud computing. You will serve as a product counsel partner across the entire product lifecycle—from early concept through global launch and post-release iteration—working closely with product, engineering, go-to-market, security, privacy, and regulatory colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted partner and primary point of contact for technical and non-technical teams, including Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Operations.
- Conduct comprehensive legal risk assessments across product development, addressing privacy, regulatory, licensing, and intellectual property concerns.
- Identify, assess, and drive resolution of legal issues related to customer data, privacy, security, export control, open-source software, and responsible AI.
- Help shape the long-term strategy, structure, and priorities of the product counsel function.
- Advise on US and global privacy laws (including CCPA and GDPR) and emerging AI regulations to support strict global compliance for the organization and its affiliates.
- Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements and data protection agreements, including vendor agreements, technology partnership agreements, terms of service, product-specific terms, privacy policies, and acceptable use policies.
- Support legal strategy for critical incident response and regulatory investigations in partnership with Security, Privacy, and Communications teams.
- Co-develop scalable self-service legal playbooks, templates, and automated workflows to empower Engineering and Product teams.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
- 8+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, and/or IaaS product development teams.
- Track record counseling AI product and engineering teams across the product development lifecycle (design and definition through global launch and post-release iteration).
- Strong business judgment to calibrate business and legal risk and translate complex legal advice into actionable guidance for Product, Engineering, and Operations teams.
- Strong understanding of US and global privacy regulations, intellectual property, open-source software, artificial intelligence, and data security.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
- Superlative communication and collaborative problem-solving skills, with the ability to build positive, influential relationships with cross-functional partners and senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in one or more specialized areas, such as US and global privacy law (CCPA, GDPR), data security, IP and open source, or emerging AI/ML regulation.
- Familiarity with cloud security and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC 2) and experience translating them into practical engineering roadmaps.
- Experience launching AI/ML products and advising on legal and regulatory aspects of product development in that space.
- Experience supporting incident response or regulatory investigations.
- Experience implementing self-service legal tooling, automation, or workflows for technical teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation range: $180,000 - $225,000.
- Eligible for bonus and equity in addition to the posted salary range.
