Overview
A technology organization is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel, Product, to address complex legal challenges in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. This role involves advising product, engineering, and go-to-market teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept through global launch and ongoing iteration. The position reports to the Associate General Counsel and is part of a small, dynamic legal team focused on cloud computing and AI innovation.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted legal partner and primary contact for technical and non-technical teams including Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Operations.
- Conduct comprehensive legal risk assessments related to product development, covering privacy, regulatory, licensing, and intellectual property issues.
- Identify, evaluate, and resolve legal matters concerning customer data, privacy, security, export control, open-source software, and responsible AI.
- Contribute to shaping the long-term strategy and priorities of the product counsel function.
- Advise on U.S. and global privacy laws such as CCPA and GDPR, as well as emerging AI regulations to ensure global compliance.
- Support drafting and negotiation of complex commercial and data protection agreements, including vendor agreements, technology partnerships, terms of service, privacy policies, and acceptable use policies.
- Assist with legal strategy for incident response and regulatory investigations in collaboration with Security, Privacy, and Communications teams.
- Develop scalable self-service legal playbooks, templates, and automated workflows to empower Engineering and Product teams.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
- Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, and/or IaaS product development teams.
- Proven track record advising AI product and engineering teams across the product lifecycle.
- Strong business judgment with the ability to translate complex legal advice into actionable guidance.
- Deep understanding of U.S. and global privacy regulations, intellectual property, open-source software, artificial intelligence, and data security.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
- Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving skills, with the ability to build influential relationships across cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- A low-ego, proactive attitude with a growth mindset and willingness to tackle projects of varying scope.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in specialized areas such as U.S. and global privacy law (e.g., CCPA, GDPR), data security, intellectual property, open source, or emerging AI/ML regulation.
- Familiarity with cloud security and compliance frameworks like FedRAMP, HIPAA, and SOC 2.
- Experience advising on legal and regulatory aspects of AI/ML product development.
- Background supporting incident response or regulatory investigations.
- Experience implementing self-service legal tools, automation, or workflows for technical teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $180,000 - $225,000 annually.
- This is a remote position.
