Overview
A leading cloud computing and AI company is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel, Product to join a dynamic legal team. This role involves providing comprehensive legal support across the product lifecycle, focusing on cutting-edge AI and cloud computing technologies. The position reports to the Associate General Counsel and requires collaboration with product, engineering, marketing, security, and regulatory teams.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor and primary contact for technical and non-technical teams including Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Operations.
- Conduct thorough legal risk assessments related to product development, addressing privacy, regulatory, licensing, and intellectual property issues.
- Identify and resolve legal matters concerning customer data, privacy, security, export control, open-source software, and responsible AI.
- Contribute to shaping the strategy, structure, and priorities of the product counsel function.
- Advise on U.S. and global privacy laws such as CCPA and GDPR, as well as emerging AI regulations to ensure global compliance.
- Support drafting and negotiation of complex commercial and data protection agreements, including vendor agreements, technology partnerships, terms of service, privacy policies, and acceptable use policies.
- Assist with legal strategy for incident response and regulatory investigations in partnership with Security, Privacy, and Communications teams.
- Develop scalable self-service legal playbooks, templates, and automated workflows to empower Engineering and Product teams.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
- Minimum of 8 years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience supporting SaaS, PaaS, and/or IaaS product development teams.
- Proven track record advising AI product and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Strong business judgment with the ability to translate complex legal advice into actionable guidance.
- Deep understanding of U.S. and global privacy regulations, intellectual property, open-source software, artificial intelligence, and data security.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
- Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving skills, with the ability to build influential relationships across cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- A proactive, growth-oriented mindset with a willingness to tackle projects of varying scope.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in specialized areas such as U.S. and global privacy law (e.g., CCPA, GDPR), data security, IP and open source, or emerging AI/ML regulation.
- Familiarity with cloud security and compliance frameworks like FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC 2, and experience translating these into engineering roadmaps.
- Experience launching AI/ML products and advising on their legal and regulatory aspects.
- Background supporting incident response or regulatory investigations.
- Experience implementing self-service legal tools, automation, or workflows for technical teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $180,000 - $225,000
