Overview

This role serves as a key legal advisor for various business transactions and corporate projects, focusing on procurement (direct and indirect), strategic partnerships, technology licensing, and general commercial matters. The position involves providing expert-level transactional procurement and supply chain legal advice on a global basis, ensuring compliance with company policies and departmental procedures. The legal guidance supports operations primarily in aviation equipment manufacturing and sales, telecommunications (including satellite and internet service provider issues), and digital services and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal advice, consultation, and support to business units and operational teams on procurement and supply chain transactions.
  • Develop legal strategies and propose innovative business solutions balancing corporate objectives, risks, and benefits.
  • Support various departments on complex business transactions.
  • Manage critical cross-functional projects related to legal advice implementation.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements to protect company interests.
  • Stay informed on legal trends, legislation, and rulings; proactively recommend related actions.
  • Research and prepare memoranda and executive summaries on legal topics.
  • Design and update legal templates, playbooks, forms, and documents.
  • Develop and recommend changes to corporate policies and practices.
  • Create guides and provide training to the legal team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Lead resolution of informal and formal legal disputes related to procurement and supply chain, including strategy development, updates to leadership, and management of outside counsel and budgets.
  • Draft or review pleadings, discovery responses, prepare witnesses, and negotiate settlements.
  • Manage responses to requests for records, demand letters, audits, and investigations.
  • Direct and develop 1-2 legal staff members, including performance appraisals and training.
  • Perform additional duties supporting corporate and legal functions as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license in good standing to practice law in the jurisdiction of employment.
  • Minimum 10 years of legal practice focusing on international procurement and general transactional matters.
  • Preferred experience supporting aviation, electronics manufacturing, telecommunications (especially satellite-based), media, and service provider markets internationally.
  • Preferred experience with IP, software licensing, SaaS, cloud transactions, advertising law, bankruptcy, litigation management, government contracts, and compliance (privacy, antitrust, anti-bribery) internationally.
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred.
  • Experience in a U.S. or Japanese multinational company preferred.
  • Experience in avionics, electronics, software, satellite communications, or service provider industries preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and 5% internationally.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $185,000 - $195,000, varying based on knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
