Overview
This role serves as a Senior Counsel focused on AI & Legal Technology, providing senior legal guidance across AI, product development, and legal technology matters. The position reports to the General Counsel and partners closely with product, marketing, customer success, partners, strategy, procurement, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Act as the go-to legal advisor for issues relating to AI, product development, and marketing.
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate developments in AI law and regulation (domestic and international), as well as industry trends—translating complexity into actionable guidance.
- Develop internal policies, frameworks, agreement terms, and best practices that enable the business to move quickly while maintaining compliance with applicable and emerging laws.
- Advise on and negotiate terms with independent software vendors, open source providers, strategic partners, and go-to-market collaborations.
- Review and advise on AI-specific terms in customer and vendor agreements and customer-facing materials.
- Advise on product development, feature launches, and go-to-market strategies, recommending practical and defensible approaches.
- Partner cross-functionally to manage legal risk, develop scalable legal processes, and support strategic initiatives.
- Support the Partner team on collaboration agreements, co-marketing arrangements, and alliance structures with legal technology partners and AI vendors.
- Support business stakeholders with legal review of marketing activities, joint initiatives, and external-facing technology collaborations.
- Serve as a senior, visible legal voice for enterprise AI, product development, marketing, and legal technology.
- Provide creative, strategic legal advice and business counsel on commercial, operational, and strategic legal issues with timely and accurate responses.
- Engage with customers to ensure their needs are heard and delivered.
- Work directly with Product, Marketing, Customer Success, Partner, and Strategy teams.
- Suggest and drive process improvements, including new standard approaches to beta testing and improvements to product documentation and contract language.
- Demonstrate agility with AI legal technology tools, including identifying which tools work for which purposes and evaluating new tools flexibly.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of AI tools (including legal technology tools), Microsoft O365, Salesforce, and Ironclad.
Requirements
- Six (6) or more years of relevant experience in-house and/or at a law firm supporting technology initiatives, potentially including experience with intellectual property, M&A, technology transactions, privacy, and data.
- Meaningful exposure to AI, data, and technology legal issues.
- Experience with software development and open source licensing issues, including OSI-approved license compliance and OEM licensing; familiarity with developer and marketplace agreements, including API terms, SaaS agreements, and platform policies.
- Background in marketing law, including knowledge of FTC and applicable state laws.
- Strong understanding of technology, including legal technology, cloud services, software licensing models, open source, information security, privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory considerations.
- Experience supporting AI-enabled products, legal technology, and emerging technology issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers without oversimplifying.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Required: Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the AI regulatory landscape, including emerging U.S. and international frameworks (EU AI Act, EU omnibus, state-level AI bills, FTC guidance, etc.).
- JD degree from an accredited law school and license to practice in the United States.
- Ability to research and analyze legal issues.
- Solid proficiency with AI tools, legal technology tools, MS Office, and legal research platforms and tools. Familiarity with Salesforce, Ironclad, and Asana.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Intelligence, flexibility, creativity, diligence, responsiveness, and strong communications skills.
- Strong exposure to computer and software technology concepts.
- Solid proficiency with MS Office, Salesforce, and Contract Management Software.
Compensation & Benefits
- This position is eligible for total compensation, including a competitive base salary, an annual performance bonus, and long-term incentives.
- Expected salary range: $183,000 and $275,000.
- Final offered salary will be based on factors including depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity. Hiring at the top end of the range would not be typical to allow for future meaningful salary growth.
