Overview
This role serves as Senior Counsel, AI & Legal Technology, supporting the organization on matters relating to AI, product development, and legal technology. The position reports directly to the General Counsel and functions as a senior, visible legal advisor shaping strategy.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the go-to legal advisor for issues related to AI, product development, and marketing.
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate developments in AI law and regulation (domestic and international) and relevant industry trends, translating complexity into actionable guidance.
- Develop internal policies, frameworks, agreement terms, and best practices that enable the business to move quickly while staying compliant with applicable and emerging laws.
- Advise on industry relationships and negotiate terms with independent software vendors, open source providers, strategic partners, and go-to-market collaborations.
- Review and advise on AI-specific terms in customer and vendor agreements and customer-facing materials.
- Advise on product development, feature launches, and go-to-market strategies, recommending practical and defensible approaches.
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering/Applied Science, Product, Partner, Customer Success, Strategy, Procurement, and other business stakeholders to manage legal risk, develop scalable processes, and support strategic initiatives.
- Support collaboration agreements, co-marketing arrangements, and alliance structures with legal technology partners and AI vendors.
- Assist business stakeholders with legal review of marketing activities, joint initiatives, and external-facing technology collaborations.
- Lead legal representation for enterprise AI, product development, marketing, and legal technology.
- Provide creative, strategic counsel on commercial, operational, and strategic legal issues, delivering timely and accurate responses.
- Engage with customers to ensure customer needs are addressed.
- Work directly with Product, Marketing, Customer Success, Partner, and Strategy teams.
- Suggest and work on process improvements (e.g., standardized approaches to beta testing; improvements to product documentation and contract language to enhance efficiency and align with business and product requirements).
- Use and evaluate AI legal technology tools to improve efficiency, including identifying appropriate tools for specific purposes and being willing to try new tools.
- Maintain skilled knowledge working with AI tools (including legal technology tools), Microsoft O365, Salesforce, and Ironclad.
Requirements
- Six (6) or more years of relevant experience in-house and/or at a law firm supporting technology initiatives, which may include experience with intellectual property, M&A, technology transactions, privacy, and data.
- Meaningful exposure to AI, data, and technology legal issues.
- Experience with software development and open source licensing issues, including OSI-approved license compliance and OEM licensing; familiarity with developer and marketplace agreements (including API terms), SaaS agreements, and platform policies.
- Background in marketing law, including knowledge of FTC and applicable state laws.
- Strong understanding of technology, including legal technology, cloud services, software licensing models, open source, information security, privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory considerations.
- Experience supporting AI-enabled products, legal technology, and emerging technology issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers without oversimplifying.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
- Required: Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the AI regulatory landscape, including emerging U.S. and international frameworks (EU AI Act, EU omnibus, state-level AI bills, FTC guidance, etc.).
- JD degree from an accredited law school and license to practice in the United States.
- Ability to research and analyze legal issues.
- Solid proficiency with AI tools, legal technology tools, MS Office and legal research platforms and tools.
- Familiarity with Salesforce, Ironclad and Asana.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Intelligence, flexibility, creativity, diligence, responsiveness, and strong communications skills.
- Strong exposure to computer and software technology concepts.
- Solid proficiency with MS Office, Salesforce, and Contract Management Software.
Compensation & Benefits
This position is eligible for total compensation including:
- Competitive base salary
- Annual performance bonus
- Long-term incentives
Expected salary range: $183,000 and $275,000
Final offered salary will be based on factors including depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity. Hiring at the top end of the range would not be typical to allow for future meaningful salary growth.
