Overview
This role provides senior legal counsel supporting enterprise AI, product development, and legal technology. The Senior Counsel, AI & Legal Technology reports directly to the General Counsel and serves as a go-to advisor on AI law, product and marketing legal issues, and legal technology matters.

Responsibilities
- Act as the primary legal advisor for issues relating to AI, product development, and marketing.
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate developments in AI law and regulation (domestic and international) and industry trends, translating complexity into actionable guidance.
- Develop internal policies, frameworks, agreement terms, and best practices that support business execution in compliance with applicable and emerging laws.
- Develop and advise on industry relationships, including negotiating terms with independent software vendors, open source providers, strategic partners, and go-to-market collaborations.
- Review and advise on AI-specific terms in customer and vendor agreements and customer-facing materials.
- Advise on product development, feature launches, and go-to-market strategies, recommending practical and defensible approaches.
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering/Applied Science, Product, Partner, Customer Success, Strategy, Procurement, and other stakeholders to enable growth, manage legal risk, develop scalable processes, and support strategic initiatives.
- Support the Partner team on collaboration agreements, co-marketing arrangements, and alliance structures with legal technology partners and AI vendors.
- Support business stakeholders with legal review of marketing activities, joint initiatives, and external-facing technology collaborations.
- Serve as a senior, visible voice across enterprise AI, product development, marketing, and legal technology.
- Provide creative, strategic legal advice and timely, accurate responses on commercial, operational, and strategic legal issues.
- Engage with customers to ensure their needs and feedback are heard and addressed.
- Work closely with Product, Marketing, Customer Success, Partner, and Strategy teams.
- Propose and improve processes (e.g., standard approaches to beta testing; variations in product documentation and contract language to improve efficiency and align to business and product requirements).
- Use and adapt to AI legal technology tools to improve efficiency; evaluate which tools work for specific purposes and remain open to trying new tools.
- Maintain skilled knowledge and practical working familiarity with AI tools (including legal technology tools), Microsoft O365, Salesforce, and Ironclad.
Requirements
- Six (6) or more years of relevant experience in-house and/or at a law firm supporting technology initiatives, which might include experience with intellectual property, M&A, technology transactions, privacy, and data.
- Meaningful exposure to AI, data, and technology legal issues.
- Experience with software development and open source licensing issues, including OSI-approved license compliance and OEM licensing.
- Familiarity with developer and marketplace agreements, including API terms, SaaS agreements, and platform policies.
- Background in marketing law, including knowledge of FTC and applicable state laws.
- Strong understanding of technology and technology-adjacent legal topics, including legal technology, cloud services, software licensing models, open source, information security, privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory considerations.
- Experience supporting AI-enabled products, legal technology, and emerging technology issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, including explaining complex legal concepts to non-lawyers without oversimplifying.
- Demonstrated intelligence, flexibility, creativity, diligence, resourcefulness, responsiveness, and strong communications skills.
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset: identify risk and propose a path forward.
- Required: Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the AI regulatory landscape, including emerging U.S. and international frameworks (EU AI Act, EU omnibus, state-level AI bills, FTC guidance, etc.).
- JD degree from an accredited law school and license to practice in the United States.
- Ability to research and analyze legal issues.
- Solid proficiency with AI tools, legal technology tools, MS Office, and legal research platforms and tools. Familiarity with Salesforce, Ironclad, and Asana.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of intellectual property and proprietary rights issues including data, trade secrets and trademarks.
- Experience advising product and marketing teams in a fast-paced technology or legal technology company.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in good standing.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Solid proficiency with MS Office, Salesforce, and contract management software.
- Strong exposure to computer and software technology concepts.
Compensation & Benefits
This position is eligible for total compensation including:
- Competitive base salary
- Annual performance bonus
- Long-term incentives
Expected salary range: $183,000 to $275,000
Final offered salary will be based on factors including depth of experience, skill set, qualifications, and internal pay equity. Hiring at the top end of the range would not be typical to allow for future meaningful salary growth.
