Overview
A growing technology company is seeking a Product Counsel to provide legal guidance at the intersection of technology, law, and financial services. This role focuses on supporting the development and growth of a commercial payments product, advising cross-functionally to mitigate risk while enabling business growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to the Product team for launching new features related to a commercial payment card product
- Negotiate a variety of contracts including customer NDAs, issuer processor agreements, and receivables financing contracts
- Support Sales with training and processes to streamline and accelerate the sales cycle
- Review and assist in developing marketing content that is both compelling and compliant
- Collaborate with Finance and Risk teams to minimize losses, investigate fraud, and develop policies and processes to reduce fraud risk
- Work cross-functionally with legal peers in privacy, regulatory affairs, intellectual property, and general product counseling on emerging issues
- Stay informed on industry developments to proactively advise business partners
- Build trust with business stakeholders to become a sought-after advisor for the payments product
Requirements
- Licensed attorney based in the United States with at least 6 years of experience
- Significant in-house legal experience complemented by law firm training
- Experience working on emerging fintech products, particularly in commercial payments (excluding cryptocurrency)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. financial regulations with the ability to clearly explain compliance requirements to engineers and product managers
- Comfortable making independent decisions in areas of regulatory or contractual ambiguity
- Proactive, hands-on approach with enthusiasm and a sense of humor
- Revenue-oriented mindset with the ability to push back when necessary
- Humble, low ego, and committed to empowering colleagues
- Interest in AI and experience or enthusiasm for building and leveraging AI-driven tools
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation varies based on geographic location and factors such as education, experience, and certifications. The following salary ranges apply:
- San Francisco, California: $175,000 to $241,000 USD
- U.S. metropolitan areas (Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City Area, Seattle, Washington D.C.): $153,000 to $210,000 USD
- Other locations in the United States: $153,000 to $210,000 USD

Location
This position is open to candidates based in the United States. Some interviews or new-hire training sessions may be held in person at global offices.

Candidates must be authorized to receive and access commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations. The role requires authorization to access company products and technology.
