Overview

A technology organization is seeking a Senior Counsel to join their Commercial Legal team. This role involves negotiating high-value agreements with Fortune 100 clients and developing legal playbooks and templates to streamline future deals. The position requires a builder-closer mindset, strong judgment on risk, and the ability to partner closely with sales and other revenue teams. The role is fully remote and reports to the Head of Commercial Legal.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and close commercial deals efficiently, supporting enterprise, commercial, and mid-market sales teams, as well as customer success and professional services.
  • Provide hands-on legal partnership to revenue teams to help meet business objectives while managing risks.
  • Develop, own, and continuously improve contract templates, playbooks, and legal resources to accelerate deal closure.
  • Handle various legal needs across the organization, including product, marketing, and community relations.
  • Advise internal clients and leadership on legal matters critical to growth and innovation.
  • Utilize AI tools and workflows to accelerate drafting and negotiation processes, focusing on scalable solutions for the legal team.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the legal team.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in an applicable jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and intellectual property licenses, including SaaS, partnership, professional services, and vendor contracts.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial law, intellectual property law, data protection regulations, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to build trusted strategic advisor relationships with internal clients.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, collaborate cross-functionally, and resolve open issues.
  • Experience building AI tools, workflows, or processes that improve speed or scale in legal work.
  • Willingness to operate as an individual contributor with a proactive, scrappy approach suited to a high-growth environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in both law firm and in-house legal roles.
  • Background working with open source software or companies active in open source.
  • Knowledge or curiosity about technology related to data science, machine learning, or AI products.
  • Proactive engagement style, seeking stretch projects and assisting others.
  • Experience thriving in fast-paced, high-growth or startup environments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $165,000 - $220,000, depending on role, level, location, skills, experience, and education.
