Overview
This Senior Counsel role is based in Sacramento, California, with remote flexibility for experienced insurance defense litigators who can manage their practice independently while staying closely connected to a local team.
An active California Bar license is required.
Responsibilities
- Develop a case theme that is more compelling than any plaintiff strategy for sympathy or anger
- Independently handle court appearances, depositions, briefs, and trials
- Manage matters from strategy through resolution, including discovery, depositions, substantive motion practice, client and carrier communication, mediation, expert work, trial preparation, and trial
- Communicate proactively with clients and colleagues, including routine client communications
- Anticipate next steps and keep matters moving without needing constant oversight
- Work collaboratively with attorneys at all experience levels
- Cultivate relationships with existing and future clients
- Provide leadership and direction for less experienced attorneys
Requirements
- JD from an ABA approved school
- Must be licensed in the State of California
- 8+ years of solid litigation experience, specifically with litigation support, deposition and trial preparation
- Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial
- Experience with time management systems
- Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision
- Outstanding listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Professional appearance and demeanor

- Experience handling insurance defense matters

Remote Flexibility With a Connected Local Team
- Work may be performed remotely, with regular team communication and weekly office meetings
- Collaboration, training, case preparation, and team connection in-office may be encouraged
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $160,000–$190,000 annually (depending on experience and qualifications)
- Annual billable hours bonus:
- $10,000, then aggregating with $7,500 for every additional tier
