Overview
A global technology company specializing in delivery services is seeking a Senior Employment Counsel to join their legal team. This role focuses on employment-related legal matters across the Nordics and Baltics, addressing both traditional employment law and emerging workforce models. The position is based in Helsinki, Finland.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions in the Nordics
- Provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice on issues involving employees, independent contractors, and alternative workforce models
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including HR, Operations, Policy, and Legal to support business initiatives and manage legal risks
- Lead and coordinate external counsel across various jurisdictions to ensure consistent and high-quality legal advice
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and proactively advise on potential impacts to the business
- Contribute to the global employment legal strategy and share best practices across regions
Requirements
- Fully qualified lawyer with significant experience in employment law, typically 8+ years, gained in a law firm and/or in-house environment
- Proven ability to work independently and lead complex, multi-jurisdictional legal matters
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior business partners
- Excellent collaboration skills, able to work openly and constructively with other legal team members in areas of intersecting or ambiguous legal responsibility
- Experience advising on or exposure to non-traditional workforce models such as independent contractors and platform work
- Experience working with trade union matters is valued
- Excellent judgment with a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach to legal risk
- Fluent in English; Finnish is optional, additional European languages are a plus
