Overview

A leading go-to-market platform is seeking a skilled litigator to manage its litigation and disputes function. This high-judgment, high-visibility role involves overseeing the active litigation portfolio, building infrastructure and processes to mitigate legal exposure, and serving as the primary in-house voice on disputes strategy. The position reports to the Senior Director, Risk & Regulatory and requires managing matters end-to-end, coordinating with outside counsel, and providing clear business guidance on legal risks. This is a remote role with periodic in-person offsites.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the litigation portfolio including active disputes, pre-litigation demand letters, regulatory inquiries, and arbitrations across commercial, employment, and data-related matters
  • Serve as the primary in-house contact for outside litigation counsel: scope engagements, control costs, drive strategy, and keep leadership informed with timely updates
  • Develop and maintain litigation infrastructure such as legal hold procedures, matter tracking, outside counsel guidelines, and escalation protocols
  • Collaborate with Privacy, Compliance, and Security teams on data retention guidelines
  • Advise cross-functional teams (Sales, Product, Engineering, People) on litigation risk, preservation obligations, and dispute-avoidance strategies in clear, actionable terms
  • Identify patterns in litigation that indicate systemic product, operational, or contractual risks and proactively report insights to leadership
  • Support the broader legal team on commercial disputes related to customer and vendor agreements, working closely with Commercial Counsel on escalated matters
  • Manage discovery processes, coordinate document collection and review with internal teams, and oversee e-discovery vendors as needed

Requirements

  • Significant litigation experience managing complex commercial, data, or employment disputes as lead or co-lead counsel; in-house litigation experience strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to manage outside counsel effectively, including scoping engagements, controlling strategy and spend, and maintaining in-house ownership of key decisions
  • Experience with litigation intersecting data privacy, including consumer class actions, regulatory inquiries, and disputes involving data practices; familiarity with CCPA, GDPR, or similar frameworks is a plus
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to translate litigation risk into practical, risk-adjusted recommendations for non-lawyer stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of distilling complex matters into clear executive updates and cross-functional guidance
  • Project management skills to track multiple live matters simultaneously
  • Experience building or improving litigation infrastructure (legal hold procedures, matter tracking, outside counsel guidelines) preferred
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments with broad scope and shifting priorities
  • Curiosity and interest in understanding the product, data practices, and business model as context for legal risk
  • Comfortable using AI tools to enhance research, drafting, and workflow efficiency
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar

  • Tier 2 Pay Range (All other US locations): $205,200—$256,500 USD total cash compensation
  • Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses, 401(k) plan, at least 10 paid holidays per year, flexible paid time off, parental leave, employee assistance program, wellbeing benefits, global travel coverage, life/AD&D/STD/LTD insurance, FSA/HSA, and medical, dental, and vision benefits
