Overview
This role involves serving as Senior Counsel, Payments, providing legal advice and strategic partnership to support payments initiatives within a leading internet financial platform company. The position focuses on guiding the design, launch, and operation of innovative payments products, ensuring compliance with complex legal and regulatory requirements globally.
Responsibilities
- Act as a key legal partner to Product, Compliance, and Engineering teams developing new payments-related offerings, including payment networks.
- Provide strategic legal advice and collaborate with business teams to develop and scale processes for launching payments products and programs worldwide.
- Assess licensing and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions to support product expansion and business objectives.
- Offer practical legal guidance on global payments regulations, including licensing, consumer protection, anti-money laundering (AML), and financial reporting.
- Review payments-related marketing materials and external communications to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent degree with admission to practice law in the United States; must be a member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, including significant advisory experience on payments, blockchain, and financial services matters.
- Deep understanding of U.S. federal and state payments laws, including regulations related to money transmission, AML/BSA, and consumer protection.
- Experience advising product and engineering teams on legal requirements related to payment network design, custody, money transmission, or payment instruments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting global product launches and navigating regulatory and compliance issues internationally.
- Strong familiarity with financial institution partnerships, including global banking institutions.
- Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams in fast-paced, technology-driven, and product-focused environments.
- Background in fintech, cryptocurrency, or other emerging financial technologies.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range: $230,000 - $297,500
- Compensation is determined by factors including relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and organizational needs.
