Overview

A global technology company is seeking an experienced legal professional to join their Legal Department, supporting new lines of business with a focus on global regulatory issues, particularly consumer protection and competition laws. This role involves advising product, operations, design, and engineering teams on complex legal matters related to supply, sourcing, licensing, trust & safety, platform policies, compliance, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance throughout the product development and operations lifecycle on cutting-edge and first impression legal issues.
  • Act as a day-to-day legal partner for business teams to understand product roadmaps and offer pragmatic, strategic advice to minimize legal risks while advancing business interests across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Lead consensus-building across legal teams and coordinate advice on complex issues including privacy, consumer protection, intermediary liability, competition, anti-discrimination, employment, marketing/IP, ecommerce, payments, and related laws.
  • Collaborate with legal counterparts supporting other business units and global product teams to ensure consistent and globally aligned legal advice.
  • Draft clear and concise risk analyses, memoranda, disclosures, disclaimers, FAQs, terms of use, policies, and implement related processes.
  • Manage outside counsel on complex research issues, balancing business goals with effective time and cost management.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree with 9-12 years of relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, and/or in-house legal departments.
  • Preferably in-house experience at a multinational, consumer-facing technology company in a product counseling role.
  • Admission to a US state bar, preferably California, or eligibility to register as California Registered In-House Counsel.
  • Knowledge and experience applying regulations and industry guidelines such as consumer protection law, CDA 230, DMCA, TCPA, E-Commerce Directive, GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, CAN-SPAM, DSA/DMA, employee misclassification, and other internet platform-related regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to distill complex legal advice into clear, succinct oral and written communication.
  • Proven ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously in fast-paced, dynamic environments, comfortable with ambiguity and risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisive, risk-based decisions independently and under time pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust and collaborate effectively with senior business and legal partners.
  • Familiarity with the company’s platform, evolving product lines, and competitive landscape is a plus.
  • Strong ethical judgment and empathy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous product counsel experience.
  • Interest in global regulatory issues and consumer protection.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and rapidly shifting priorities with flexibility and poise.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $208,000 to $253,500 USD.
  • Eligibility for bonus, equity, benefits, and employee travel credits.

Location

  • This position is remote eligible within the United States.
  • Candidates must reside in a state where the employer has a registered entity.
  • Occasional work at an office or attendance at offsite meetings may be required as agreed with management.
